Celebrate the Ladies!

Source
Today is the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day! For a century women have been celebrated on March 8 around the world. This is nothing short of amazing!  Over the past 100 years we have come a long way as a gender but we still have a heap of work ahead of us. I can sit here and talk about all of the problems facing women around the world today, but I'm good. When I start talking about issues oppressing women I get all upset, I start frowning and going off and I feel like crap. I'm not trying to be funny but I don't want to go there today. I'm going to keep it positive. Let's celebrate women's accomplishments instead! In the good old US of A we can work, we can vote, we can attend any school our heart desires! *Toast* Women's sports are highly recognized (shout out to THE Ohio State University Women's Basketball team on their 3rd straight Big Ten Tournament Championship!), heck we can go to Mars if we want to! *Toast*  As women we don't waste time, we make things happen!

Today find a way to celebrate the ladies in your city.  Here in Columbus, OH there will be an event starting at 6pm. Click here for more information! Another notable celebration is the Join Women on the Bridge event.  Columbus, OH isn't apart of this :-(, but if you're in Cincinnati you can celebrate IWD on the purple bridge!  If you aren't in Ohio, go to the IWD website for a listing of world wide events.

How will you celebrate IWD? Donate to an organization that benefits women.  Heck, join an organization! Why not! Workout with a lady! Buy a lady a drink! Look, whatever you decide to do today is great, as long as you do something!

What woman/women have inspired you lately?

Smooches!

Women's Health Is Debatable Now?!

Source
This question seems ridiculous to me but the majority of the House of Representative think otherwise.  That is why the House passed a bill to defund Planned Parenthood eleven days ago.  240 men and women voted in favor of this bill; 10 of these clowns were Democrats! *bbm surprised face* I tried to find out which democrats voted in favor of this preposterous bill and wasn't successful (If anyone has that information or knows how to obtain it, please let me know).

Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind) and the rest of the representatives that want to strip Planned Parenthood's federal funding are trying to fight the abortion battle. Been there! Done that! The Roe v. Wade war was fought back in 1973! Get over it people. Mike Pence called this bill "a victory for life", but how hypocritical is it to consider the fetus' life and not the woman who is carrying it?  The real smack in the face is that it is against the law to use federal funding for abortions! Planned Parenthood uses federal funding to perform gynecological care, cancer screens, STI testing and other vital services for women's health. 60% of women use Planned Parenthood as their primary healthcare system according to Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calf) on The View last week. This leads me back to my first question, so our women's health is debatable now? According to the majority of our elected representatives, this answer is yes.  And this boils my blood!

Say Planned Parenthood loses its funding and shuts down.  Millions of women would have no where to go. More children would be born without having the proper prenatal care which means more sick babies to pay for. $$$. Women and men wouldn't have anywhere to go for STI testing or birth control so more disease would spread throughout our communities. $$$$.  Hospitals would over flow with stage 4 cancers because women didn't get the proper screenings. $$$$$! Maybe I'm being a little dramatic but you get my point. Preventative care is always the better choice because it is less expensive. Planned Parenthood provides preventative care for people who can not afford these pricey health insurance plans.  Health insurance is outrageous! If I couldn't afford health insurance you bes believe I would be at PP!  Planned Parenthood does entirely too much for our healthcare system to consider defunding them. The HOP should be thanking them! Our country would have a lot more health care issues if it wasn't for PP. They better let them be!

If you are trying to cut spending Planned Parenthood shouldn't be on your radar. How about you look into our defense budget.  We spent over $692 billion last year. Look into that! I know you have, but do it again! You remember when you would try to find the answer to problem and you would ask your parents for help, they would say "keep looking baby, you'll get it", that how I feel about our defense budget. Keep looking, you'll find a billion to cut somewhere. *Shaking my head* It doesn't make any darn sense.

My rant is almost over but I have one more point. Pro-lifers think if you stop Planned Parenthood's funding then they would go out of business and abortions would decrease dramatically. Wrong again my close minded, black and white thinking friends! This would reap chaos! Women would go back to taking drastic measures to terminate their pregnancies. We would just have more died women on our hands in the process. Planned Parenthood might preform a procedure that you don't agree with but the good that they do far out ways the "bad".  You don't shut down a corporation because they do one thing that you disagree with. In that case we wouldn't have any banks, schools or churches. Think about it.

I know I've made a big deal about this bill passing in the House but I don't think it would get any further.  Our Senate has a democratic majority and Obama would use this bill as toilet paper. It just upsets me that it even made it this far.  What will happen when we get a republican back in office? This issue will come up again.  I just hope everyone remembers this issue around election time.  I don't want someone in office that is so narrow minded to end PP because they perform abortions, not considering the other amazing services they provide.  The real message is get informed on these issues and take your stand at the polls.
