When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong

"A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger"
Proverbs 15:1

We have heard this phrase a million times, "I'm just keeping it real". People use this phrase as an excuse to be cruel and heartless. It is getting out of hand!  Being honest with someone is not synonymous with being cold-blooded. You don't have to belittle someone to tell them the truth. Thoughtless words are a waste of breathe so please think before you speak. I plan to take my own advice since I can be a smart aleck at times. I hope this makes you consider being tactful with your words. I know someone will test your patience this week but vow to be gentle instead of harsh.

Happy Monday!

Resort Review: 10 Prints

Resort 2012 had some amazing prints and patterns! There were over 130 shows and I picked ten that I thought were exceptionally original. I love to look at the different collections and imagine where the designers pulled their inspiration from before I read the reviews on style.com. Resort collections are overlooked a lot of the time because everyone doesn't relate to the resort style.  Lately resort season has become another chance for designers to let loose on fabrics.  Swimsuits are a rarity now-a-days. Plus this bold patterns stood out like sore thumbs! There was no overlooking anything here! Over the next week I will be giving my own reviews on these incredible shows below and showing some of my favorite looks.

Versace

Marc Jacobs

Oscar de la Renta

Emilio Pucci

Roberto Cavalli was so nice....

I had to share him twice. LOL!

BCBG

Diane von Furstenberg

Nanette Lepore

Cedric Charlier

Love This Look: Distressed Jeans & Sweatshirt

A Relaxed classic look.  Throw on a pair of pumps, a statement necklace or scarf, a big tote and you have an easy chic outfit.  Here's 5 ladies that killed the look:

There you have it! I love that these ladies are essentially wearing the same basic outfit but it looks totally different on each one of them.  Putting your own touch on an outfit makes it special.

Happy Thursday!

Back Action

Summer is approaching and everyone wants to be wear the least amount of clothing as possible. I don't blame you.  The heat makes me uncomfortable and irritable.  Instead of having cleavage all summer with v-neck tanks and tees, try a little back action.  It is just as sexy and it will add a little class to your summer chic.

Try a blouse, a dress or both. Instead of your back being wet from walking around that summer festival with a fitted tee, give it some air! I hope you enjoyed your weekend!

Happy Monday!

Mickey and the "Crew"

My love for J. Crew runs deep! I've confessed my love a few times on this here blog (here and here).  I love what the brand has become.  It is thee store for classic American clothing with a chic twist. The colors are phenomenal.  The styling, I mean, it's amazing.  The J. Crew style guide (its too unique to be named a catalog) makes my heart smile when I see it in the mailbox.  This documentary on Mickey Drexler , CEO of J. Crew, was very interesting and insightful.  J.Crew is becoming the American "it" brand because of its leadership, Mickey Drexler. I just hope they are grooming some other Crew members to take his place because that man is very hands on!  I can't wait to see where the brand will be in the next decade. This documentary is about 45 minutes so instead of watching reruns of your favorite show, check out Mickey and the "Crew".

Happy Thursday!

A Pop of Neon

A little neon yellow is hot for the summer! Pop a little neon yellow in one article of clothing or accessory and your outfit will go from dull to dazzling! A shirt, a skirt, nail polish, shoes (love the shoes),  a bag, it all looks amazing! Just don't over do it.  Lets not blind the people around you now!
Take a look:

Summer Leggings

Alexander Wang set the bar for a sporty fashion scene this summer with his SS2012 collection.     I don't know if I should run a trail or throw on a pair of heels and a silk button down.  The versatility of the ribbed texture and aztec-inspired print have been well-received. They motivate the chic woman to explore her athletic style!  The floral print pants with panels are equally fabulous! A. Wang did his thang!
Although A. Wang did his thang with the floral pants so did EVERYONE else. I'm not trying to be funny but Floral prints pimped out the SS2012 season. The floral fairy paid every designer to create their own rendition of this print.  You can't go on any site, in any store, whether it be Sears or Barney's without seeing the floral pant. With a matching blazer. Now as much as I've enjoyed the floral pant, especially from Celine and the affordable H&M, its not a trailblazing print. M. Streep says it best "Florals for spring, groundbreaking."(Devil Wears Prada).  This is why I appreciate the other contemporary prints this year.  Helmut Lang, Rag & Bone, and Theory all made my heart smile with their legging style pants.  Kelly Wearstler's leggings gives the illusion of a textured pant so kudos to her too.
